Antares Sonar Replacement

H Williamson & Sons have recently completed a sonar replacement onboard the Antares LK419 at the Dales Marine Services’ drydock in Leith, Edinburgh.

The previous sonar which was a 24Khz Furuno FSV-24 had a damaged transducer and so skipper Lowrie Irvine took the opportunity to upgrade the sonar to a Furuno FSV-30.

Two of our engineers sailed with the vessel from Shetland to disconnect the previous sonar and make it ready for removal on route to Peterhead, from where the new sonar was collected from Furuno UK. Once on the dock and floated, the removal and installation of the sonar hull unit was completed along with transceiver and wheelhouse units whilst the vessel's exterior was painted.

On completion our engineers stayed onboard to conduct seatrials on the way back to Shetland. The skipper has since reported he is very happy with the performance of the sonar and the work undertaken by H. Williamson & Sons.
